Clove grows in the tropics, preferring maritime climates. It rarely reaches flowering stage, as the buds are picked before the petals appear. After picking, they are left to dry until they turn brown.

In the Middle Ages, clove oil was very popular, although expensive due to the difficulty of importing it. As a result, it was almost as precious as gold! Today, it is used in perfumes, soaps, medicines (dental analgesics), mouthwash, chewing gum, etc.
