Tamanu Oil

The ultimate first-aid remedy for ailing skin and various aches and pains, tamanu oil is produced from the kernel of the tamanu nut. The tamanu tree (Calophyllum inophyllum) is native to tropical Southeast Asia, where it grows both on the coast and inland. To release the precious oils it contains, the kernel must be dried in the sun for around one to two months. It will then cover with a rich, dark, viscous oil. At this point, the kernel can be cold-pressed to extract the luxurious, fragrant, greenish tamanu oil. The oil contains around 30% omega-6 (linoleic acid) and around 40% omega-9 (oleic acid), as well as stearic and palmitic acids.
