Gardein was discontinued from La Boite à Grains: why?

Hopefully this will help you better understand the challenges faced by an SME like La Boite à Grains.

At the end of January and beginning of February 2026, a number of publications appeared on social networks, pointing the finger at the prices of Gardein products in our stores. For our part, for several weeks we had been noticing big price differences between what we were offering and what we were seeing from our competitors, particularly the big supermarket chains. We immediately contacted our supplier to clarify the situation.

The truth is that products you find elsewhere at $10 or $12 are sold to us by our supplier at over $14. And then we have to apply our regular margin in order to pay salaries and all our operating expenses.

What are the reasons for this discrepancy?

So you're asking yourself, how can this happen? Unfortunately, this sometimes happens when exclusive offers are signed between companies, suppliers and retailers, in order to offer ultra-competitive prices on the shelves of the big chains. We at La Boite à Grains are excluded from these offers, and have no access to them. Nor are we in a position to cut our margins to reduce the gap, at the risk of putting our company in difficulty.

Our management has therefore decided to discontinue Gardein from our stores.
