Health tips for "prevention rather than cure

Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, health has become the planet's number one concern. It will have opened our minds to the side of the human being we often take for granted: our health. Official medicine has its hands full, and it's getting nowhere. Under the circumstances, the best thing we can do is to take care of our health, in other words, to "prevent rather than cure", as the saying goes. Staying healthy and energetic every day is a present-day challenge. But the promise that comes with this responsibility is grandiose. Every decision you make about your health will have a miraculous impact, improving the quality of your daily life.

Today, we have the means to be fully aware of the importance of our diet, if we choose to work according to its basic rules. Knowing that the vast majority of health problems are directly or indirectly linked to the way we eat. Our ancestors intuitively understood this importance, as Hippocrates stated 500 years before our era "Your food is your medicine".. Nature offers us all its riches, it's up to us to choose wisely.

Knowing that the human being is complex and unique, he or she is never out of balance for no reason. It's essential to intervene at the causal level if we really want to have a lasting effect. One cause can have multiple and profound effects if the imbalance has become chronic. Since the vast majority of physiological disorders involve chronic inflammatory processes, an anti-inflammatory lifestyle will be necessary..3

The importance of the microbiota and the emergence of chronic diseases are truly topical, and just one example. By now, it's clear that our intestinal microbiota plays a key role in maintaining our health. It fulfils numerous functions, to name but a few: it builds our immune system, produces certain vitamins, regulates our mood and mental health through the production of neurotransmitters, and so on..4

Health tips: the naturopathic approach

Naturopathy is the grand synthesis of natural health methods. It can be defined as the study, respect, teaching and application of the laws of life in the service of prevention, quality of life and self-healing. It is the art and science of health and is based on 5 foundations: vitalism, humorism, hygienism, causalism and holism.

  • Vitalism: It highlights the vital strengths and weaknesses of the person undergoing treatment.
  • Humorism It looks at the entire activity of the emunctories (intestines, lungs, skin, liver, kidneys).
  • Hygienism: Includes food, body, environmental and emotional hygiene.
  • Causalism: It highlights the root causes of the disorder(s).
  • Holism: Maintaining a holistic approach, adapted to the person being consulted.3

If it's still possible to turn to a natural approach, the naturopathic approach offers an individualized itinerary with the aim of restoring health balance through natural means and without side effects..6

Feeling good is not a vague feeling, it's a physical and mental state that the brain recognizes. It's a well-known fact that a happy, optimistic person develops more antibodies than an unhappy person..2

Health advice: our continuing education consultants

Our advisors are at your service in the following stores La Boite à Grains stores to help you discover a vast inventory of natural products designed to alleviate, if possible, symptoms of imbalance. These resource people regularly offer continuing education courses, available from natural product companies across Canada. These courses are available online.

In-store health advice is short-term, and is not intended to trivialize symptoms that require more attention. It's a service that gives you the tools to respond to recent symptoms, such as a cold or flu, occasional constipation, insomnia associated with menopausal symptoms, and so on. They can also suggest supplements such as vitamins and minerals, antioxidants, not forgetting essential omega-3s, plus superfoods like maca to sustain energy throughout your day.

Many clients combine naturopathy with a variety of supplements. The fundamentals of naturopathy are first and foremost the search for the causes of an imbalance. Then we develop a course of action that is directly linked to the health situation of the person consulting us. It may be that no supplements are required. All that's required is a review of certain lifestyle habits, such as diet, which can be very effective in restoring improved health.
