Activated charcoal is a basic remedy in homeopathic medicine as a carbon-based supplement.
It is prepared by igniting a pile of dry beech or birch wood, which is then covered with a thick layer of earth. This slows down the combustion process and increases the intensity of the heat. The combustion process takes place with very little oxygen, and converts the wood into volatile compounds and charcoal, consisting mainly of carbon.
Often used as a traditional remedy for acute indigestion, flatulence or venous congestion.
