Hornbeam, a Bach flower full of surprises
Bach Hornbeam, also known as charm, is a rather unusual flower: it only germinates after two or three years. So, unlike many other plants, it doesn't bloom every spring. Despite its slowness, it can be sudden and very beautiful. Some Hornbeam species, for example, produce superb purple flowers from April to June. Most of the time, however, we find catkins, which are a type of hanging, yellow and green flower at the end of hornbeam branches as soon as the warm weather arrives.
The hornbeam retains a beautiful appearance whatever the season. While its toothed, pleated leaves are a soft green in spring and summer, they take on beautiful shades of yellow and orange in autumn, hanging on until the foliage is renewed. Very hardy, it adapts well to all soils and doesn't need much light. Its dense roots, deeply anchored in the soil, enable it to live for up to 150 years, and it is highly resistant to disease.
