Mustard: Bach's flower of comfort
Bach Flower mustard is an annual plant, meaning that its life cycle, from germination to seed production, lasts one year. A member of the Brassicaceae family, the Bach mustard flower is often considered a weed, as it easily invades fields and gardens. Found throughout France, it is also widespread in Europe, Asia and northern Africa.
Bach mustard flowers from May to September, with lyrate lower leaves and oval upper ones. It measures between 20 and 60 cm and has pale yellow flowers that, like the sun, dispel gloom. A single plant can bear up to 4,000 seeds, patiently waiting underground for the right opportunity to surface. Its black seeds can be used to make mustard, although most often the condiment is made from white mustard. Bach Mustard flower is mainly found in fields, fallow land, roadsides and waste ground, especially if they are calcareous.
