The name "Bourbon" refers to the cultivar (variety), which can be either Pelargonium graveolens or Pelargonium asperum. It is grown mainly on Reunion Island and Madagascar. Geranium is widely used in perfumery, with its suave, flowery, sweet notes reminiscent of roses, and is used in the composition of many perfumes. The essential oil comes from the leaves, not the flowers.
Geranium Bourbon essential oil is used in aromatherapy to help relieve premenstrual tension (PMS) and menopausal symptoms, as well as to fight colds and coughs.
