Astragalus is gaining in popularity as an effective natural remedy for colds and flu. Unlike echinacea, long-term use of astragalus does not appear to suppress immune function. This is our most economical astragalus supplement.

In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), astragalus root ("huangqi" in Chinese) has been considered a superior adaptogen and restorative tonic for centuries. In TCM, it is a sweet, comforting plant with effects on the lungs, spleen and heart meridians.

Adaptogens can increase general resistance to stress homeostasis produced by pathophysiological or environmental stimuli. The Chinese name, huangqi, can be translated as "yellow ruler". Astragalus root is widely used in TCM to increase Qi (vital energy), for spleen deficiencies and for deficiencies accompanied by spontaneous sweating. Traditionally, astragalus is combined with other adaptogenic plants such as ginseng, angelica or licorice, and administered as a decoction (strong herbal tea).

Ideal users:

People seeking additional support for the immune system during cold and flu season.

Complementary products:

Ginseng, Licorice
