Cultivated for thousands of years, almonds are the most widely grown of nuts, appealing for their delicate, sweet taste and crunchy texture, as well as for their many nutritional properties. Unlike our Californian almonds, which are pasteurized, our European almonds are raw and have the good, slightly bitter taste of almond oil.
- Raw almonds contain omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (1/4 of total lipids).
- Almonds contain 4.5 times more calcium than peanuts. ¼ cup of almonds contains more calcium than ¼ cup of milk. Calcium helps build and maintain strong bones and healthy teeth.
- Almonds are also a source of iron, potassium, phosphorus, zinc, thiamine (which releases energy from carbohydrates).
- Almonds contain fiber. Eaten as a snack, almonds provide a feeling of satiety.
- Almonds are remineralizing nuts thanks to their high magnesium, manganese and vitamin E content. Vitamin E is an antioxidant that prevents the oxidation of fats in tissues.
- It's also a good source of copper and riboflavin (vitamin B2), which plays a role in energy metabolism and tissue formation.
