This small fruit tree grows in warm climates such as the Mediterranean or Florida. The ripe fruit has a rind that turns from soft green to bright yellow when exposed to cold.

Ripening takes place in late autumn or early winter in the northern hemisphere. An essence is obtained by mechanically pressing the zest from the fruit.
