Also known as miniature watermelon, Les Jardins de l'Écoumène's organic Mexican cucumber is a curious vegetable that produces edible fruit harvested when between 2 and 4 cm long. They can be eaten fresh or pickled like gherkins. Their pale and dark green mottled skin is reminiscent of watermelon.
Native to Central America, Mexican cucumbers are easy to grow, and can be trellised or netted with tendrils. One plant can cover almost two square meters and produce between 10 and 15 fruits. Allow a month between sowing and transplanting outdoors, once the risk of frost has passed.
