An important plant in traditional Western pharmacopoeia, nettle is a pure adaptogen that can be used for all kinds of conditions, combined with other more specific plants that direct its tonic action. It is often taken as an infusion, in large quantities and over long periods. Its nutritive action produces spectacular results when used judiciously and consistently. It is suitable for just about everyone: children, the elderly, the seriously ill, convalescents, pregnant or breast-feeding women. Nettle is rich in minerals and trace elements: magnesium, calcium, iron, boron, cadmium, chromium, cobalt, copper, tin, manganese, mercury, nickel, phosphorus, lead, potassium, sulfur, zinc, chlorophyll, carotenoids, mucilage, tannins, amino acids (25 to 42%), vitamins C, K, E and B (thiamine, riboflavin and niacin). Nettle hairs contain the amines histamine, serotonin, choline, acetylcholine and formic acid.
