Native to Asia, Ravintsara (Cinnamomum camphora cineoliferum), also known as Madagascan Camphor, produces an essential oil from the distillation of its leaves, with a scent reminiscent of Camphor. Not to be confused with Ravensare (Ravensara Aromatica), a tree that is unfortunately on the verge of extinction, which produces 2 essential oils (depending on whether the leaves or the bark are used) whose properties are different from those of Ravintsara. The essential oil most commonly used is Ravintsara for its antiviral and immunostimulant properties.
Ravintsara essential oil is used in aromatherapy to help temporarily relieve coughs associated with colds.
