Semences Nordiques' organic Tokyo Bekana is a slightly sweet, very tender variety. It is sometimes mistaken for curly leaf lettuce, but is more closely related to cabbage. Resists heat and early cold well.
Gardening tips for Tokyo Bekana Organic Greens from Semences Nordiques
Asian greens are very vigorous and easy to grow. Sow them directly in the garden, in rows for easy harvesting. Sow them densely for greens (15-30 seeds per plant) or more widely for large greens (1 seed every 3-4"). Space rows 12" apart.
These greens are in the brassica family, like radishes and arugula, and perform better in spring and fall than in midsummer. If flea beetles have a habit of visiting your garden, you can put a floating blanket on the ground at the same time as you sow, to avoid the little holes they make in the leaves.
