Before taking a well-deserved retirement, Guy was the manager of our Aylmer branch from 2020 to January 2023, since La Boite à Grains took over from Sol Épicerie Santé. Before that, he was one of Sol's pillars and a jack-of-all-trades for some thirty years. As a result, the store and its natural and organic products hold no secrets for him. "I love our Aylmer store: we're in a privileged location, surrounded by nature. The customers are warm and curious, it's a great community". he says.

Guy presents his favorite: organic tofu from Soyarie.

Why Soyarie organic tofu?

I always prefer local products, and Soyarie tofu is a product I've known and consumed for a long time. It goes back to the 80s! I really like their firm tofu with fine herbs, which is generous in flavor.

What advice would you give to anyone interested in this product?

It's a great source of plant-based protein, and all you need to enjoy a good meal is a good amount of vegetables. One of my favorite recipes for preparing tofu is this one: add a balanced mix (one third each) of olive oil, fresh ginger and tamari. Delicious!

Let's talk about food. What does healthy eating mean to you?

The first thing that comes to mind is organic produce. Then it's to eat as many green vegetables as possible, to have a reasonable amount of protein every day (60 to 100 g), and to eat as few sweeteners as possible. I don't totally eliminate sugar, but I'm careful.

Do you have a favorite meal of the day?

I'd have to say breakfast because it's the first meal of the day and it's important. I take the time to eat well. I have a certain routine, usually a bagel with peanut butter, a jam that's not too sweet, a mango and coffee.

When I need extra energy, I drink a kombucha or eat a date. Just one date!

Do you have any healthy habits to share?

I stay active and exercise almost every day. It's a good habit to have, especially at my age! I often go for walks or bike rides. We have a superb region for that, and it would be a shame to deprive ourselves of it.
