The proanthocyanidins present in grape seeds are recognized for their anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic and anti-allergic actions; for preventing skin ageing; for destroying oxygen free radicals; and for inhibiting the harmful effects of the sun's UV rays. They also have links with collagen, the most abundant protein in the body and a key component of skin, gums, bones, teeth, hair and body tissues.

Proanthocyanidins have been indicated for maldistribution of microcirculatory blood flow in the brain and heart; altered capillary fragility and permeability (in diabetes mellitus); chronic arterial or venous insufficiency in the extremities; altered platelet aggregation and other features of blood flow in capillaries; rupture of capillary elastic fibers (collagen and elastin) due to the action of free radicals and enzymes; retinal microangiopathy, lymph node edema, varicose veins and other symptoms of the problems listed above; as well as the cumulative effects of aging and the reduced risk of degenerative diseases.
