Stay cool and hydrated this summer with this trio of mouth-watering recipes. We suggest working with natural sources of electrolytesthe minerals that keep cells hydrated, prevent the undesirable effects of heat stroke and counteract dehydration.
Vitaminized water
This flavored water, featuring the famous maple water, is bursting with vitamins and minerals and will hydrate you naturally. The maple taste is subtle, but make no mistake, the benefits are many!
These include blood sugar control and a natural source of electrolytes. The fruit flavors are light, yet very present in this all-weather water. Prepare it on hot days to stay hydrated, and try it at the end of the day to replenish your energy.
Ingredients
- 1 liter water
- 1 liter filtered maple water
- 2 to 4 sprigs fresh mint (depending on size)
- ½ cup sliced strawberries
- 1 kiwi, peeled and sliced
- 1 lime, sliced
- Combine all ingredients in a large pitcher and enjoy!
- For extra flavor, prepare a few hours in advance.
- Reuse fruit and herbs for three refills.
Slush with watermelon and basil
If summer had a taste, it would be watermelon. To the divine freshness of watermelon, we add a hint of citrus and a dose of minerals from maple syrup. This slush is sure to delight young and old alike, and leave them wanting more!
Ingredients:
- 4 cups watermelon *
- 1 cup ice cubes
- 4 basil leaves
- Juice of one lime
- 1/8 cup maple syrup
Place all ingredients in a high-powered blender and blend for a few seconds to desired consistency. Drink immediately.
*Melon flesh can be frozen to obtain a denser, slightly less liquid slush.
Tropical Popsicle with electrolytes
This popsicle is a natural and effective way to combat dehydration, as it's packed with electrolytes. Coconut water, orange juice, salt and honey ensure a balance of minerals to keep you feeling hydrated as quickly as possible. Be prepared, and always keep a few in the freezer. You never know when heatstroke might strike!
Ingredients :
Makes about ten popsicles.
- 1 cup coconut water
- 1 cup orange juice
- 1 cup pineapple flesh
- 1 pinch salt
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 kiwis, sliced
Blend all ingredients in a high-powered blender until smooth. Pour contents into popsicle containers and add one kiwi slice per popsicle. Freeze for a minimum of 8 hours.
