When a tea salon becomes a tea boutique, a tea school, in a word, a benchmark in Quebec and beyond... this is the story of Camellia Sinensis. Hugo Americi opened the Camellia Sinensis tea room in Montreal in 1998, and was soon joined by Jasmin Desharnais, François Marchand and Kevin Gascoigne. The four travelled extensively in Asia, cultivating their passion to offer their customers a unique selection of top-quality teas.
More than 25 years after the adventure began, Camellia Sinensis has established itself as a major industry player in the province. The tea house shares its expertise through its branches in Montreal and Quebec City, best-selling books are published and teas and herbal teas imported from China, Japan, India and other countries make their way to Quebecers' tables. "We're tea importers. Not wholesalers. We know the families personally. We know where it comes from, who grows it, in what garden and how. explains Jasmin Desharnais in an interview with Le Soleil newspaper in 2023.
