Summary: How to take good care of your skin in winter?

Frédéric Bisson, host at 104.7FM, talks with Lynn Goneau, naturopath at La Boite à Grains, solutions to dry winter skin. They stress the importance of humidifying indoor air with a humidifier or by drying laundry, moisturizing well, and exfoliating the skin with gentle scrubs followed by natural oils.

Lynn Goneau recommends a diet rich in omega-3 (oily fish, chia seeds) and vitamin C (peppers, broccoli, kale) to support skin health. Finally, she presents Nordora products which offers skincare products adapted to harsh climates, made with ingredients from the boreal forest.

1. Causes of dry winter skin

  • Dry air in the home Blower fan heating can dry out the ambient air, which has a direct effect on the skin.
  • Suggested solutions :
    • Use a cool-air humidifier.
    • Dry clothes in the room to increase humidity.

2. The importance of hydration

  • Drink plenty of water Internal hydration is essential, but it can be difficult to drink enough in winter.
  • Tip Add fruit (berries, cucumbers, mint) to water to vary the taste and encourage consumption.

3. Skin care

  • Scrub :
    • Exfoliates skin and removes dead cells.
    • Use natural oils such as coconut or sesame to moisturize after exfoliation.
  • Lip balm Moisturize lips to prevent dryness and chapping.

4. Nutrition for healthy skin

  • Omega-3 fatty acids :
    • Found in oily fish (salmon, mackerel) and chia seeds.
    • Help maintain skin hydration and elasticity.
  • Vitamin C-rich vegetables :
    • Peppers, broccoli, kale: Promote collagen production.
    • Cucumber: Moisturizes and refreshes.

5. Care adapted to the Canadian climate

  • Nordora products :
    • A Quebec brand that uses ingredients from the boreal forest.
    • Complete skin care line (creams, serums, cleansing gels) adapted to harsh winters.

Frédéric Bisson - Host 104.7FM:

This year, I don't know about you, but maybe it's my age, I've noticed that I have really dry skin and it's a problem in winter for many reasons. We talk about it with Lynn Goneau naturopath at La Boite à Grains. It feels like it's cracking all over. I have little boo-boos that don't heal, but I'm in a new house with blown air this year. It's the first time I've had this type of heating and I feel like there's a lack of humidity in the house.

Lynn Goneau - Naturopath of La Boite à Grains:

Yes, that's what could really be a primary problem. It's when the air in the house is too dry. It changes the texture of your skin. Take a little cold-air humidifier or dry your laundry in the room. That'll put the moisture back in.

Frédéric Bisson - Host 104.7FM:

You have to drink a lot of water?

Lynn Goneau - Naturopath of La Boite à Grains:

Drink water. It's important. Hydrate well, of course, because you're doing it from the inside. I understand that in winter, you don't have as much taste as in summer. In winter, you can add berries or something inside, or my favorite, cucumber and mint. That changes the taste of the water.

Frédéric Bisson - Radio host 104.7FM:

Yeah, I drink it. I think enough. But I feel like there's a layer of something on my skin. Now you're talking about exfoliation.

Lynn Goneau - Naturopath of La Boite à Grains:

Yes. Exfoliation is important. What's a scrub? The scrub. It's what you apply to your skin. You're going to rub it in gently, of course. It's going to help you, because yes, in winter, we wear clothes that cover our skin. We tend to accumulate, whereas when you do a little exfoliation, that's it, you rub it on your body. Gently.

You can apply this with a little essential oil on it or coconut oil or sesame oil, whatever. And you're just going to apply this on your skin, on your face and on your body. Then after that, under the shower.

Frédéric Bisson - Host 104.7FM:

Uh, some people also use lip balm.

Lynn Goneau - Naturopath of La Boite à Grains:

Yes, because of course moisturizing your lips is super important. You can apply this to your lips to keep your lips beautiful.

Frédéric Bisson - Host 104.7FM:

Yes, that's less of a problem for me. But I'm interested in exfoliation.

What do you eat when you want to take care of your skin?

Lynn Goneau - Naturopath of La Boite à Grains:

The preferred foods are those containing omega-3 fatty acids. You'll find these in fatty fish like salmon and mackerel. You can also find it in chia seeds. They'll really help keep your skin hydrated.

Frédéric Bisson - Host 104.7FM:

Well, if we want to, let's say, favor certain vegetables more than others, which ones would you suggest?

Lynn Goneau - Naturopath of La Boite à Grains:

Peppers, broccoli, kale, that's it!  rich in vitamin C. We know that vitamin C helps produce more collagen. And then there are cucumbers, which are wonderful not just in summer.

Frédéric Bisson - Radio host 104.7FM:

You're talking to us this week about supplements. Nordora skin care.

Lynn Goneau - Naturopath of La Boite à Grains:

Yes, the Nordora company, it's Canadian, it's even a Quebec company that offers skin care products adapted to the Canadian climate. That's what I like about it, because it's really for cold, hard winters. The ingredients come from the boreal forest, then have a moisturizing power that is very powerful. Then a complete range of creams, serums and cleansing gels. It's very interesting to work with them.

Frédéric Bisson - Radio host 104.7FM:

I'll try that. Then we'll talk next week. Thanks Lynn.

Lynn Goneau - Naturopath of La Boite à Grains:

Thank you for your time. Bye bye.
