Hawaiian spirulina is a super-food extremely rich in nutrients. Harnessing the power of the Hawaiian sun and the minerals in seawater, spirulina is packed with essential nutrients such as beta-carotene, iron, calcium, the liver-protecting antioxidants phycocyanin and superoxide dismutase, chlorophyll, zeaxanthin/lutein, B vitamins and vitamin K.
It's also an incredible source of protein (60% of spirulina's weight), including all the essential amino acids.
Rigorous quality testing
Gandalfwhich has been associated with Flora since 2014, tests its spirulina on some 15 key quality control markers, using independent laboratories to verify results for heavy metals, protein content, microbiology and fatty acid content.
Although aquaculture is a controlled system, tests are carried out to detect contaminating toxins that may appear in wild-grown spirulina, such as microcystins and BMAA. Spirulina is also tested for radioactive contaminants and plastic particles from the ocean. Gandalf Spirulina even meets the rigorous standards of California's Prop 65 regulation on contaminants.
Gandalf emphasizes the quality and efficiency of its packaging: its products are packaged in a light- and oxygen-resistant resealable aluminum pouch, inside which is a very thin layer of transparent food-grade plastic. The BPA-, BPS- and phthalate-free packaging is designed to keep air and light out, so as to preserve product freshness and efficacy, which is particularly important for sensitive nutrients such as spirulina.
A valuable source of nutrients
Visit Hawaiian spirulina is particularly rich in beta-carotene, an essential provitamin that helps maintain eyesight, skin, mucous membranes and immune function, as well as the development and maintenance of bones, teeth and night vision. A unique drying process called Ocean Chill™ removes oxygen to protect beta-carotene from oxidation.
Hawaiian spirulina is also a good source of gamma-linolenic fatty acid (GLA), which is also found in evening primrose oil and contributes to skin health. There's zeaxanthin and lutein for brain and eye health, as well as two special antioxidant compounds: superoxide dismutase, an antioxidant enzyme for liver health, and a unique compound called phycocyanin.
There are approximately 400 to 500 mg of phycocyanin per 5 g of Gandalf Hawaiian Spirulina powder. Phycocyanin is a powerful antioxidant compound and a blue-green pigment, like chlorophyll, that protects cells and tissues, particularly the liver and brain, from free radical damage.
Available as tablets and powderThis green superfood can be added to smoothies or simply taken with fruit and water to enjoy great energy all year round.
We wish you good health!
