Combating Chronic Stress, Fatigue and Exhaustion

Lutter contre le Stress Chronique, la Fatigue et l'Épuisement - La Boite à Grains

Normally, we would recover from the excesses of the holiday season by treating our liver. This year, it's a different story... Our wonderful body has a perfect way of reacting to stress. It releases excess discomfort by secreting hormones, and it was Hans Selye, a physician and pioneer of stress studies, who defined this reaction as the General Adaptation Syndrome.

It's important to know that there is a useful form of stress, which motivates us to take action to get what we want, known as "eustress", and physical exercise is one example. On the other hand, there's bad stress, which makes us feel as if we're always pushing our limits, known as "distress".

However, the body can't tell the difference between good and bad stress. The only thing that distinguishes the two is our perception of the experience, which will influence our final state of mind. Optimists, for example, are more likely to stay on top of their problems. In the scheme of things, unresolved chronic stress can lead to fatigue and even exhaustion. Today, there are many circumstantial reasons for chronic stress.

Chronic stress, fatigue and burnout: tools within your reach!

Are you familiar with adaptogenic plants? Adaptogenic plants are known to support the body and mind during periods of stress. Adaptogens tone and regulate the functioning of the adrenal glands, which are called upon during periods of stress. The adrenal glands release cortisol, the main stress hormone, over a period of several hours, thereby regulating a number of processes, including digestion, the immune system, mood and emotions, energy storage and expenditure, and so on.

Over a long period, fatigue sets in and leads to exhaustion. It was a Russian toxicologist by the name of Nicolaï Lazarev who, in 1947, coined the concept of the adaptogenic plant. He attempted to define the mode of action of the ginseng plant: an adaptogenic substance that generally and non-specifically increases the body's resistance to the various stresses that affect it.

Did you know that they have been used worldwide for thousands of years, in many traditions and shared by modern-day herbalists? The advantage is that they are safe to consume on a daily basis and over the long term, with very few side effects.
