Oxyures (intestinal worms) - Symptoms and treatment in 2024
Updated on 2024-04-03
Oxyure: definition and treatment
Here in Canada, there's a common misconception that "it's impossible to have intestinal parasites"also known as pinworms. In fact, we all have parasites! Bedding, or other objects, could potentially infect you, since eggs can survive for 2 to 3 weeks! In the anus area, worms lay their eggs at night.
Parasites can be found in abundance in our bodies. They cohabit in equilibrium with us as long as we're healthy. Parasites are organisms that take up residence in our bodies, then feed on our cells and on what we eat. They even have beneficial effects on our bodies! Problems arise, however, when there is an imbalance affecting our pH levels, enzymes or intestinal flora sometimes from pinworm eggs. Afterwards, you may experience certain ailments without knowing the cause: anxiety, nervousness, fatigue, headaches, digestive problems, rapid weight gain or loss.
What are the symptoms of pinworms? (diagnosis)
There are many types of parasites that are dangerous to health. The best known is Candida, but others such as giardia lamblia, roundworms and tapeworms are also very common. The symptoms of too many parasites causing imbalance will be much the same, whether of one type or another. These symptoms can obviously be attributed to something else, but if you suffer from these ailments on a regular basis, you may be an unwilling host!
11 common symptoms (of enterobius vermicularis):
- Itchy anus
- Anxiety, nervousness, mood swings can help the pinworm eggs
- Swollen eyes, dilated pupils
- Teeth grinding
- Itchy nose, itchy eyes or anal itching
- Fatigue, insomnia
- Constipationdiarrhea (bowel movements) are symptoms ofoxyurosis
- Gas, bloating
- Headaches
- Excess or loss of appetite
- Excess or loss of weight
Visit children are just as susceptible to pinworms (enterobius vermicularis or enterobius pinworms) as we are. However, their symptoms are easier to detect and will be intensified during a full moon.
On the anus and perianal pruritus is the main symptom reported by people affected by pinworm infestation, these thread-like worms that find refuge in the perianal area. This area becomes a preferred egg-laying site for pinworms, causing intense itching, especially at night. Diagnosis of this parasitosis is made by visual inspection for worms in this area, or by using a specially designed tape test to capture pinworm eggs on the skin around the anus, thus confirming the presence of pinworms and their eggs.
Make sure your pet is dewormed every month, as the parasites they most often suffer from are transmitted simply by direct contact.
3 foods to avoid when you have worms:
- Sugar and sweet and/or refined foods help pinworms.
- Alcohol in all its forms
- Milk and other dairy products
What causes worms (how do you get them?)
Pinworms are intestinal parasites that take advantage of the human body to feed and reproduce. These are pinworms and roundworms, and are harmful to health. One potential cause of infestation is pinworm eggs ingested in dirty, poorly washed vegetables, which penetrate the intestine. They cause all sorts of unpleasant symptoms, such as stomach ache, itching, diarrhea (liquid stools)etc.
The anus, subject to intense itching, especially at night, causes irritability and disrupts sleep. However, infection can often occur without any apparent symptoms.
Clothes must be washed regularly. So should bedding and hands. This is the first step in stopping the spread of the disease.
Can they leave on their own?
No. Only after treatment withpinworm treatment. If they reappear, as in the anus, it means there's been a new contamination. Pinworms emerge from the anus in the evening, after bedtime, and the females lay their eggs in the anal folds. When you scratch yourself, the eggs settle under your fingernails and, at some point, return to the digestive tract via the mouth. These microscopic eggs can be carried along in sheets and dust, where they continue to spread.
So "clean up" becomes the watchword for your health.
How to get rid of them?
You may prefer not to take any remedies, but in the case of parasitosis, you can't avoid them. Chemical drugs kill one or two varieties at a time, and cause quite distressing side effects (extreme nausea and vomiting).
The advantage of the three natural herbs I suggest below is that they can get rid of over 100 types of parasites without too much discomfort or interference from medication!
Some herbs help you get rid of them naturally:
- Black walnut shell (kills developing parasites and pinworms) and adult pinworms)
- Wormwood ("wormweed" kills pinworms!)
- Cloves (kills eggs)
I emphasize that all three should be used simultaneously, as a 21-day to 1-month treatment. I recommend starting on the eve of the full moon, as parasites are more vulnerable. It's during the full moon that they detach, reproduce and lay their eggs! This is also why symptoms are more intense on this day of the lunar cycle.
Foods that kill intestinal worms and parasites
Diet is all the more important in a treatment to combat parasites. All parasites feed on our ingested food. They like dairy products and alcohol, sugar and carbohydrates. These increase sugar levels, mucus production and body acidity. It's an ideal environment for their survival and reproduction. In short, you may not be the one with the sweet tooth! During this treatment, I strongly recommend following the instructions in my cure " solid detox "which appears in my previous article: " Easy and effective homemade detox! ". I summarize below the important dietary advice to follow!
6 foods to kill intestinal worms
- Garlic
- Ginger, turmeric, cardamom
- Raw pumpkin seeds
- Papaya
- Coconut oil
- Herbs (thyme, rosemary, oregano, especially oregano oil)
How to use these foods for treatment:
The above foods will help greatly during your pinworm treatment, as they have a natural antibiotic, antifungal and/or antiparasitic action. I also recommend drinking a mixture of bentonite with a good acacia fiber. This combination, in a glass of pure lukewarm water, will reduce acidity and remineralize your body. It will also help to absorb waste products (dead parasites) and flush them out. Please note that it's very important not to be constipated during this cure, as dying parasites will release ammonia, so get rid of them as quickly as possible! I also recommend taking a good probiotic at bedtime, as these good bacteria will colonize and inhabit deserted areas to rebalance the body.intestinal ecosystem and fortify your immune system, which is vital for your health (and your treatment).

intestinal pinworms: detox treatments to remove parasites
According to Ministry of Health and Social Serviceshere are two less natural options for curing pinworms, oral mebendazole or pamoate.
grapefruit seed extract
L'grapefruit seed extract is a true germicide (treatment) for pinworms, effective against undesirable bacteria, fungi, parasites and viruses, and therefore good for your health. The disinfectant and antiseptic properties of this extract come from the synergy of natural ascorbic acid, the bioflavonoids present and a whole range of organic acids. The beauty of this extract is that it is as reliable on humans as it is on animals and plants.
It should be part of your first-aid kit at home, when traveling, camping, etc. For example, it can be used when you have an infection problem, such as diarrhea (tourista) or gastroenteritis. It helps prevent or combat viruses and bacteria that cause sore throats. And it can also be used externally as a disinfectant on a cut or scrape, and even applied to fungal infections such as athlete's foot.
Grapefruit seed extract can, above all, purify drinking water. Add 5 drops of grapefruit seed extract to a liter of water.
It is excellent for rinsing fruit and vegetables, using the same dosage as for drinking water.4
Spirulina
The spirulina is a small blue algae that helps treatmentBlue algae is recognized as a remarkable food that corrects the excesses and deficiencies of our modern diet. Blue-green algae contain pigments: phycocyanine (blue), phycocyanine (red) and phycocyanine (green). chlorophyll (green) and carotenoids (orange). The high nutritional quality of this food lies above all in its exceptional content of protein, beta-carotene, iron, B-complex and E vitamins, as well as several trace elements and gamma-linolenic acid (a polyunsaturated fatty acid).
What's more, spirulina regulates appetite and helps control weight thanks to a combination of nutrients and an essential amino acid (phenylalanine) that acts favorably on the satiety reflex.
The benefits of spirulina
- Improves detoxification, vision, digestion, healing, etc.
- Lowers cholesterol thanks to polyunsaturated fatty acids and fiber
- Helps the body rid itself of heavy metals
- Favors disorders such as diabetes, premenstrual syndrome, etc.
Visit spirulina provides our bodies with precious substances that are indispensable for our immune and digestive systems, among other things. It can be consumed by pregnant or breast-feeding women. It is beneficial for children, people recovering from illness and those with poor appetites. Start slowly at 1/2 teaspoon a day and gradually increase the dosage to 1 tablespoon of spirulina powder. Spirulina taken between meals can calm a craving or help with a drop in energy due to pinworms.3
Ideas for using spirulina powder:
- a smoothie
- raw apple juice
- a blend of coconut water and pineapple juice
- organic carrot or vegetable juice
- kefir, blueberries and a dash of honey
- a dip or vinaigrette
- soup at serving time
Spirulina is a precious food to the rescue of our health!
Cranberry detox
Frequent use of antibiotics (antibiotics drugs) increases pinworm resistance to antibiotics. When a urinary infection occurs, the cranberry (used as a treatment) is by far the most sought-after berry. Its protective action prevents E.coli bacteria (responsible for urinary tract infections) from sticking to the walls of the urinary tract and proliferating. Proanthocyanidins are the antioxidants in the cranberry that give it these protective effects.
Anecdote about cranberries
It was when Amerindians used cranberries to treat bladder disorders that settlers discovered their therapeutic effects, which were confirmed by science long afterwards.
For a therapeutic dosage, capsules are the best form to use for your health.2, 6, 7
Use Pau d'Arco Taheebo
The Pau d'Arco Taheebo is a tree belonging to the Bignoniaceae family, which comprises 30 species. These are trees and shrubs, mostly lianas, found in temperate to tropical regions from Mexico to northern Argentina. It is the national tree of Paraguay. Brazilians call it the "divine tree". It is the inner part of the bark that is used for its medicinal properties. Both for internal and external use. It treats a variety of conditions including arthritis, pain, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, prostate, boils, fever, respiratory infections, colds, flu, etc.
Properties of Pau d'Arco Taheebo
The Pau d'Arco Taheebo has antibacterial effects (perfect for pinworms and its treatment), antiviral, antifungal and antiparasitic effects, in particular againstCandida, anti-cancer and anti-tumor.
Parasitosis and Pau d'Arco Taheebo
Scientists have now identified the two main active components in pau d'arco: naphthoquinones, specifically lapacho and beta lapachone, which have been shown to kill a variety of bacteria, eggs, fungi, viruses and parasites. As well as containing a significant amount of quercetin, it offers considerable antioxidant protection to maintain good health.
This medicinal plant is an excellent source for the treatment of fungal diseases such as yeast infections known as Candida. Candida can spread from the throat to the digestive system (intestine), and to the male and female genital systems.
The Pau d'Arco Taheebo has great detoxifying power, helping the body to eliminate toxic substances such as heavy metals, pesticides, preservatives, etc.
New Roots Herbal presents Pau d'arco in various forms, in powder form, in bags for herbal tea or in capsules.8, 9
Before using Pau d'Arco, it is important to read the warnings.
Make a Parasitis Purge
Purge Parasites from New Roots Herbal is a natural way to eliminate parasites. It contains 12 powerful parasite killers that can eliminate up to 72 different parasite species without the side effects of commonly used drugs.
In some situations, I prefer a formula to a single ingredient, especially when it comes to health-related parasite infestations. We want to get rid of these intruders as quickly as possible for the sake of our health. It sometimes takes an army to eliminate all these parasites.
It's important to follow exactly the recommended dosage, the number of days and the rest in between. It can also eliminate eggs that have not yet hatched.
Taking fiber during this cure expels dead parasites, and adding probiotics means putting good health bacteria into circulation.10

Conclusion about Enterobius vermicularis
Finally, as I'm wont to do, I'd like to stress the importance of getting moving and going to bed early to prevent pinworms. Take up walking, yoga, swimming, dancing or cycling.
In short, oxygenate and strengthen your body. Take a good chamomile-ginger herbal tea or peppermint and thyme every night to help you get a good night's sleep. Your body regenerates more easily while you sleep. I wish you the liberation of this role of host that you play against your will, so you can finally enjoy the comfort of being in control of your body and your health!
