Le coup de cœur de Marie-France - La Boite à Grains

Marie-France, a certified naturopath and massage therapist, joined the team at our Plateau branch in 2022. This is a new step in her rich professional career, which began in a completely different field, with the Quebec City police. "I wanted to be in the police force when I was younger because I loved action, but I also always loved helping people. And I became more and more interested in plants. I met an herbalist and that opened my eyes to the world of naturopathy.".

Seven years of study at the IESN (Institut d'Enseignement en Science Naturopathique) in Montreal allowed him to make the transition, to open her practice and to eventually join la boite à grains later on in his life path. "I find here the best of what I knew, a lot of openness, cohesion. Everyone pushes each other up, I appreciate that mentality."

Marie-France presents her favorite, phosphatidylcholine from Natural Factors. "This deserves to be known!".

Why phosphatidylcholine?

Phosphatidylcholine deserves to be known. It is a phospholipid that is a constituent of the cell membrane of every cell in our body. It is also a constituent of the nervous system, extremely interesting for people who experience cognitive decline or memory problems.

Choline has very interesting properties for the liver. It will emulsify fats and stimulate the bile in a gentle way, to have a good biliary function.

In the diet, choline is found in good quantities in raw egg yolk, meat, offal, fish or sunflower seeds. But it is possible to develop a deficiency over time.

Who should take phosphatidylcholine and what advice would you give?

First of all, you should know that there is no particular risk in consuming this product. It is an effective emulsifier for fats, interesting for people who do not have a gallbladder. Phosphatidylcholine can also be recommended to pregnant women and elderly people. Poorly digested fats, yellowish stools and memory problems can be a sign of a choline deficiency.

Choline comes from lecithin. For people who do not wish to take capsulesit is possible to consume lecithin in granules or in powder formand to integrate this food in a smoothie. This helps to promote the absorption of fats.

Let's talk about healthy eating. What does it mean to you?

Finding a balance between pleasure, simplicity and health. It has taken me years to optimize this balance, especially on a family scale. I cook homemade meals every night for 6 to 8 people. I set aside an hour each day for this. In our home, there are very few snacks, we favor good complete meals. Even if it is not always easy with young children!

I have been following a gluten-free diet for six years, and I feel the benefits on many levels, for example less inflammatory reactions and also less flatulence!

Do you have any favorite meals that come up often?

Spring rolls are a hit for the whole family. I would also like to mention salmon: I bake it with Dijon mustard and maple syrup, accompany it with celery root and cauliflower.

Once a week, my girls are responsible for choosing a meal. They manage the recipe and have to respect the defined proportions. It's a good learning experience to plan your diet.

Do you have any healthy habits to share?

Between 20 and 30 minutes every morning, I have my meditation routine. It brings me a lot in terms of emotional management, acceptance, resilience. I start the day with positive thoughts, without immediately jumping on board with opening emails and the stress of daily life.

I also do yoga, which helps with circulation. I have some back problems and it makes me feel good!

Thank you Marie-France for sharing with us your favorite!
