Ingredients of Shredded Chicken Sandwich with Homemade BBQ Sauce
Homemade BBQ sauce
- 1 tablespooncooking oil
- 1 yellow onion, chopped
- 1 pressed garlic clove
- 6 oz. tomato paste
- 1/3 cup of apple cider vinegar
- ¼ cup green molasses
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (gluten-free if required)
- ¾ cup water
- 1 teaspoon organic paprika
- Salt and pepper
Shredded chicken
- 1 kilo organic chicken thigh from Saveur des Monts farm
- 6 sprouted grain or gluten-free hamburger buns, as preferred

Preparing the Frayed Chicken Sandwich with Homemade BBQ Sauce
- In a skillet, heat thecooking oil. Add onion and garlic. Allow to brown for a few minutes.
- Place onions, garlic and all ingredients for homemade BBQ sauce in a high-powered blender. Blend until smooth. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
Stovetop option:
- In a medium saucepan, sear chicken thighs for 2 minutes on each side.
- Add homemade BBQ sauce, cover and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat to medium-low and cook chicken for 75 minutes.
- Remove cover. Shake and shred chicken with a fork.
- Cook shredded chicken uncovered for 15 minutes, so that it absorbs all the BBQ sauce.
Slow cooker option:
- Place chicken thighs in the bottom of a slow cooker. Cover chicken with homemade BBQ sauce.
- Cook for 4 hours on high.
- Remove lid. Shake and shred chicken with a fork.
- On low, cook shredded chicken uncovered for 30 minutes, so that it absorbs all the BBQ sauce.
- During the final cooking stage, prepare the homemade coleslaw according to the following instructions.
- Toast the hamburger buns just before serving.
- Garnish buns with shredded chicken and house coleslaw.
